GAME INSTRUCTIONS
What is the goal of the game?
Students take on the role of renewable energy managers. The goal is to generate as much electricity as possible from solar (photovoltaic) and wind sources in just 90 seconds. By adjusting a wind turbine and moving solar panels, players see how weather conditions directly affect energy output, measured in MW (megawatts).Recommended age and educational level
Recommended for students ages 8 and up, from 3rd grade through middle school. It works well as a hands-on activity in science lessons on energy, weather, and the environment, and as a starting point for STEM discussions. How to play: single-player or multiplayer
This is a single-player game played with the mouse:- Change the height of the wind turbine in the center of the screen to catch the strongest gusts of wind.
- Move the solar panels to the spots where sunlight breaks through the constantly moving clouds.
- Decide which device to adjust at each moment to optimize total production.
What do you learn from this game? Learning and skills
- Renewable energy sources: understand how solar and wind power are generated.
- Weather and energy: see how clouds, sunlight, and wind speed affect electricity production.
- Units of measurement: get familiar with power measured in megawatts (MW).
- Decision-making and strategy: prioritize actions under time pressure.
- Observation and attention: track several changing variables at the same time.
- Environmental awareness: connect clean energy to sustainability and everyday life.
Tips to get the most out of this game
- Watch the clouds' direction and move the panels ahead of time to sunny areas.
- Check the turbine often: wind gusts shift height during the game.
- Teachers can ask students to record their MW score over several rounds and graph their progress.
- Use the game to open a class discussion: Why don't we rely on just one energy source? What happens on a cloudy or calm day?
